While LED technology began showing up in our homes around 2010, we now have copious options for maximizing our energy savings and lowering our energy bills. Look here to see some LED offerings – EnergyWise. Energy savings is good, but benefits don’t stop there. LEDs increase safety (think under cabinet lighting) and higher productivity (think teenager’s bedroom desk lighting). The bottom line is, switch to LEDs now and save forever.
Still not certain about moving to LED technology? Consider that if you installed LED lighting in a nursery, you may not have to change that bulb until your child goes off to college. The average lifespan of an LED light is 50,000 hours, compared to CFL lighting at 8,000 hours and incandescent bulbs at 1,200 hours. We can push this point further by including the savings in time (everyone’s most valuable commodity) and fuel savings as a result of less running around looking for replacement bulbs. Do you have cathedral ceiling lights or over cabinet shelf lighting? If so, you will realize even more time savings by leaving the ladder in the garage.
